Can I ask you something?
Have you ever found yourself wondering what else you're supposed to do for your child? Because you've tried. You've genuinely tried. You've sat with them after school. You've gone through homework with them. You've paid lesson teachers. You've bought extra books because somebody recommended them. You've encouraged them when they were discouraged and corrected them when they weren't putting in effort. Yet somehow, every term seems to end with the same conversation. The teacher says they're struggling. The report card says they need improvement. And you're left wondering why none of the effort seems to be translating into results. What makes it even harder is that you know your child. You live with them. You hear the questions they ask. You see how they think. You see flashes of intelligence all the time. That's why it's so confusing. Because the child you're seeing at home doesn't seem to match the child those school reports are describing. The reason I'm telling you this is because I understand it from a very unusual angle because i was that child. I was the girl everybody thought would never amount to much academically. And for a while, I believed them. The strange thing is... this isn't new.
Long before parenting blogs, YouTube teachers or even educational apps, there were mothers quietly transforming their children at home. Not with expensive programmes or fancy techniques, just with patience, observation, consistency and a deep refusal to believe the labels the world placed on their children.
The method I'm about to share isn't something I discovered on the internet. It wasn't created by a university professor or developed in a laboratory. It was passed from one determined mother to one struggling child.
And that child was me.
Hi. My name is Faith Nnaemeka-Eze also known as Lady Feema.
And the first thing you should know about me is that I'm NOT an educational psychologist. I'm not a child development expert. I'm not some academic genius who was born topping every class.
In fact... for many years... I was the exact opposite. I was the child everyone had already given up on. The one teachers shook their heads at and classmates laughed at.
The child people called dumb.
And for a while... I believed them.
The Story I Rarely Tell...
When I tell people this story today, most of them find it hard to believe because they only know the ending.
They don't know the little girl who spent years at the bottom of her class. They don't know the child who struggled to read, struggled to write, and seemed to forget things almost as quickly as she learned them. And they certainly don't know about the day I came home from school convinced there was something wrong with me. I was in Primary 2. My teacher punished me in front of the entire class. I was so frightened and embarrassed that I wet myself. Then, as if that wasn't painful enough, another classmate (the boy who always came first...) was asked to flog me while everybody watched. I still remember the laughter. I still remember the shame. Most of all, I remember what I believed when I got home that afternoon. I believed I was dumb. Not struggling. Not behind. Dumb. I genuinely thought some children had been given something I didn't have. When I got home, I told my mother everything. She listened quietly. Then she asked me a question I have never forgotten. "That boy who always comes first... does he have two heads?" I looked at her. Confused. Of course he didn't. She nodded, opened my school bag and said: "Let's begin." That evening changed everything. Not overnight. Not magically. But steadily. Consistently. Quietly. By the end of that term, I had moved from almost last position to fifth. The term after that, I came second. And by Primary 4 (second term), I came first. The same boy who had always occupied that position sat crying that day. Years later, I became Head Girl. But here's the part that matters. My mother never treated me like a child whose mind was broken. She treated me like a child whose mind had not yet been unlocked. And that made all the difference. ```So I Finally Decided To Write It All Down...
For years, whenever I shared my story, the response was almost always the same.
Mothers would pull me aside after church. Friends would call me. Parents would send messages. And eventually the conversation would always come back to one question:
"But what exactly did your mother do?"
At first, I answered these questions one mother at a time. Eventually I realised I was repeating the same conversation over and over again. So I decided to do something I should have done years ago. I put everything — the full method, the exact structure my mother followed, the conversations that changed the way I saw myself, the daily routine, what to do, what not to do, how to know it's working, and how to keep the progress going — inside one simple guide.
Not theory, educational jargon or something that requires a teaching degree. Just a practical step-by-step guide for mothers who want to help their children the way my mother helped me.
